welcome post

I am not a blogger.  I am not even that technically proficient.  And I certainly don't have anything trendy, cutting edge, or world-changing to report. But I am a parent and evolving environmentalist and I can't go another day without making an official commitment to spreading what I know, what I believe, what I hear, what I learn, or just mere hunches about how we can make this world a better place for ourselves and our children.

I believe this effort starts at home by raising the standards for the surfaces, materials, and objects we surround our kids with on a daily basis as well as with what we teach them about the planet and their role in its life cycle.  We cannot continue down the path we are on as consumers and parents.   It is my experience as an interior designer since 2001 that this does not have to mean a sacrifice in convenience, efficiency, and certainly not in design.  Through my new design specialty Baby Green Design (formally known as first:place) based in Long Beach, NY and this blog, I hope to be able to encourage as many people as possible to uphold higher standards of their own and in turn care for our planet's greatest asset: its future generations.

There are many other green blogs and parenting blogs and even resources for those interested in both; I am not re-inventing the wheel but simply heeding the call of my heart (and acting in response to the continuous calls from my expecting friends about how to set up a non-toxic home for their babies).  If I can inform or inspire just one parent to take just one conscious action or adjust their standard upward in one small way, then I will consider my mission fulfilled.

Please check back in April 2010 for the official launch of Baby Green.

Blessings,
Amanda
